How to Map Fields from Quote to Order in Salesforce Revenue Cloud

If you’re working with Salesforce Revenue Cloud and wondering how to pass data from a Quote to an Order, you’re not alone. It’s a common task—and once you know the steps, it’s easier than it sounds.

In this guide, we’ll walk through the simple process of mapping a field (like an installation date) from a Quote record to an Order record using the Sales Transaction Context in Revenue Cloud.

Why This Matters

When you create a Quote, you often need that data to carry over to the Order. If the fields don’t map correctly, your team ends up doing extra work or making mistakes. Automating that connection saves time and ensures everything flows smoothly through your sales process.

Meet the Guide

As Jared Christensen, Consultant at SOLVD explains in the video:

“We’re going to be mapping through the sales transaction context definition, and we’re going to map through the quote entities mapping to the sales transaction.”

Step-by-Step: Mapping a Field from Quote to Order

Here’s how to do it in plain language:

  1. Go to Setup in Salesforce.
  2. Find your Sales Transaction Context Definition — ideally the one you extended from the standard version.
  3. Edit the Context Definition and go to the Sales Transaction section.
  4. Add an attribute — for example, “Installation Date.” Make sure to tag it (e.g., Install_Date) and enable input/output.
  5. Save the attribute.
  6. Go to the Quote Entities Mapping section.
  7. Click Map, and choose the Sales Transaction node (not the item).
  8. Map the Installation Date on the Quote to the Installation Date on the Sales Transaction.
Jared Christensen, Consultant at SOLVD notes:

“Although the direction may look like it’s going from the Sales Transaction to the Quote, setting the attribute for both input and output allows it to go both ways.”Then:

  9. Head back to the Context Definition and go to Order Entities Mapping.
  10. Click Map, and this time connect the Installation Date on the Sales Transaction to the one on the Order.

“The fields don’t need to have the same API name, but in my example, they do,” Jared Christensen, Consultant at SOLVD points out.

How to Check That It’s Working

Once everything is mapped:

  • Go to a Quote that includes a Quote Line.
  • Click Create Order.
  • When the Order is created, check that the field (like Installation Date) moved over correctly.

If it did, congrats—you just successfully mapped from Quote to Order!

From my initial call with Spencer through project implementation with John and Evan, my experience with the SOLVD team was excellent. They were quick to understand our business needs, clear when explaining the reasoning behind proposed solutions, transparent when reporting on progress and timeline, and all around enjoyable to work with. SOLVD was very straight forward with everything needed to complete the project. No surprises, no issues, and cost was aligned with the estimate. They made implementation easy and quick.

As a rule, I'm pretty stingy with my recommendations. So it's a pleasure for me to recommend Solvd as a top-flight Salesforce consultancy. Solvd recently led our company's conversion to the Lightning interface and did it on time, on budget and made it easy for me and my team. I know I'll use their services again, and am confident they can do the same for you.
