How can I configure the Agentforce SDR template?

Are you new to Agentforce or just looking for ways to improve your sales process? In this blog, we’ll walk you through configuring the Agentforce SDR template and make your AI agent actionable.

Define Your Objective

Think about what you want your SDR agent to accomplish.  For example, do you want it to track outreach, monitor performance, or schedule sales calls?  Having a clear goal ensures that your agent serves its purpose effectively.

Craft the Topic Structure

Make your Agentforce SDR topics specific and actionable. Instead of using a generic title like “lead management,” try something like “schedule a sales meeting.”  This approach makes the topic more focused and results-driven.

Add Context Through Instructions

Ask yourself, what are the steps that the SDR agent should follow?  Clear instructions are the key to getting AI agents to perform exactly as you want.

Assign an Action

Once your AI agent can do something, assign it an action. For example, if your AI agent can schedule a meeting, assign it the action of “schedule meeting.

Test for Good Measure

Always test your configuration to make sure it’s working properly.    

Example: Scheduling a Sales Meeting

Let’s say you want your AI agent to schedule a sales meeting. Here’s how you would configure the Agentforce SDR template:

  1. Define the objective: “I want my AI agent to schedule a sales meeting.”    
  2. Create a topic: “Schedule a sales meeting.”    
  3. Add a description: “When a client is interested in our services and wants to set up a meeting, you will schedule a meeting.”    
  4. Define the scope: “I want my AI agent to schedule sales meetings for a lead owner by coordinating dates and times with the customer and the lead owner’s calendar.”   
  5. Add instructions: “Attempt to set the earliest meeting possible. If the lead owner’s calendar has something there, I don’t want them to double book a meeting. If a user wants to schedule a meeting at a time that the lead owner is not available, give them a couple options and then schedule the meeting accordingly.”    
  6. Assign an action: “Send a meeting request.”    
  7. Test the configuration: “I need a meeting.”
