How to Map fields from the Quote Line to the Order Product in Revenue Cloud
If you're working in Salesforce Revenue Cloud and wondering how to carry over information from a quote to an order, you’re in the right place.
When a customer agrees to a quote, that quote turns into an order. But what happens to the data? For example, if you enter an installation date on the quote, how can you make sure it shows up correctly on the order? That’s where field mapping comes in.
“Today, we’re going to be talking about how we can keep going and map from the quote line to the order product.” – Jared Christensen, SOLVD Consultant
Step 1: Set Up the Fields
Start by making sure you have fields created on both the Quote Line and Order Product. You don’t need to use the same API names—but it can help.
“In my example here for installation date, they do have the same API names. You do not need to have them have the same API names.” – Jared Christensen, SOLVD Consultant
Step 2: Use the Sales Transaction Item
Salesforce uses something called the Sales Transaction Context to move data between records. To link your quote line to the order product, you’ll work through the Sales Transaction Item node.
- Go to Context Definitions in Salesforce.
- Open the one that extends the Sales Transaction Context.
- Under the Map Data tab, click Edit.
- On the Sales Transaction Item node, create a new attribute (like “Installation Date”).
- Tag it for both input and output, and make sure the data type is correct.
Step 3: Create the Mappings
You’ll now create two mappings:
From Quote Line to Sales Transaction Item:
Use the QuoteEntitiesMapping section to connect the attribute from the quote line to the sales transaction item.
From Sales Transaction Item to Order Product:
Go to the OrderEntitiesMapping section and map the same attribute to the field on the order product.
Once both mappings are done, Salesforce can carry the data through the whole process—from quote to order.
Final Step: Test It
Now, go back to your quote and generate an order. When you look at the order product, you should see the mapped data—like the installation date—has carried over correctly.
Why This Matters
When your team doesn’t have to enter the same data twice, you save time and reduce errors. Mapping fields ensures that important details—like delivery dates or custom terms—follow the customer journey from start to finish.
