How Attributes replace the need for 'Twin Field' functionality in Revenue Cloud

If you’ve used Salesforce CPQ, you might know about twin fielding—a way to link fields with the same name across different parts of the system. While this was useful, Revenue Cloud removes the need for twin fields by using attributes, which make things easier and more automatic.

Why Attributes Are Better Than Twin Fields

In CPQ, twin fields needed custom fields with matching names and data types to move data from quotes to orders. Now, Revenue Cloud does this automatically with attributes.

With attributes, there’s no need to manually connect fields—the system moves information through the whole process, from quote to order to asset creation.

How Attributes Work in Revenue Cloud

When setting up a quote, users can define product attributes like:

  • Wired or wireless options for a keyboard
  • Different color choices

These attributes are stored in quote line item attributes. When the quote turns into an order, the same details automatically move to order product attributes—with no extra setup.

Attributes Stay With the Product

Even after an order is complete, attributes keep moving through:

  • Order product attributes → store product details.
  • Asset state period attributes → keep a record of changes.
  • Renewals & amendments → keep the same attribute values.

This means no more setting up twin fields manually—Revenue Cloud does it for you.
