Need to dive deep into a topic but don't have hours to spend researching? Perplexity's Deep Research feature can help.

Perplexity has a version of Deep Research that performs almost as well as ChatGPT's. The big difference? Perplexity's version is free!

Evan Connell, Consulting Manager at SOLVD, explains:

"Free users get five free deep research questions per day, which is honestly like, that's a lot. I don't know if I've had to use it five times a day. Most of the time I am on the pro plan, which means I get 500 of these questions a day, which I'll never use. So, you know, effectively infinite."

Let's take a quick look at what this tool can do.

Diving into Deep Research

With Perplexity's Deep Research, you can ask complex questions and get detailed reports.

For example, you could ask for a high-level overview of the best practices to keep in mind when creating a marketing automation strategy.

The tool will take some time to generate the report. It starts by preparing a research plan and then goes through a chain of thought process.

While it's working, you can explore other features. Perplexity has a feature called "spaces" that allows you to define custom instructions for your chats.

Once the Deep Research report is done, you'll get a comprehensive overview of your topic.

In the marketing automation example, the report includes:

  • An introductory paragraph
  • Strategic foundations
  • Audience intelligence
  • Customer journey architecture
"So this is pretty dang good," says Evan Connell, SOLVD Consulting Manager.

Important Considerations

It's important to remember that AI-generated reports should be fact-checked. However, Perplexity makes this easier by including the sources it used to create the report.

"It's easy to fact-check because they're also dropping in all their sources here. And then there'll be, if you were to export this and download it as a PDF, it'll have a list of the sources that it used." - Evan Connell, SOLVD Consulting Manager
